PokéDive review

PokéDive is a free browser roguelite by Nicolr3, whose update post describes a team of two. It is worth opening if you like a rescue-and-town loop and can tolerate a beta.

What holds up in public

The loop is easy to describe and hard to find written down anywhere else: dive, rescue, assign jobs, dive again. It is free, it has no ads and no purchases, it runs in a browser, and it takes up to four people. Eight routes, move growth, and evolutions at 25 and 50 give the run a shape. The two linked independent gameplay videos show the dungeon-and-town loop; the developer’s public update list documents the beta changes.

What players push back on

The same threads mention rubber-banding, storage friction, and bugs that later notes claim to fix. Version 0.6 adds a Place button for touch building, so earlier building complaints predate a documented change. The interface reminds some commenters of other quickly assembled browser games. I treat those as opinions attached to a date, not as a score.

On the question of generated art and code: several Reddit comments accuse the project of being assembled with an AI tool and of feeding existing sprites to a model. Other comments shrug. The developer did not answer “was it made with AI?” in the thread I read. Credits in the client point at PMDCollab and SpriteCollab for sprites under a non-commercial license, and at a public species dataset. That credit explains borrowed sprites. It does not prove or disprove an AI workflow. I will not pick a side the developer has not stated.

If you want Mystery Dungeon pacing or a Cult of the Lamb style camp inside a browser tab, try the official site. If you want a finished 1.0 with a review score from a large outlet, no such review is identified in the sources below. I am not publishing a number out of ten.

Questions

Is it pay to win?

Public text says free, no ads, no purchases. Gift codes, if any are published later, are extras, not a shop.

Was it made with AI?

Players say yes. The developer has not answered in the threads I read. Those comments are opinions rather than proof of a development method.

Should I wait for 1.0?

No 1.0 date is published. The beta flag I read on 3 November was open.
